Art Journal - Take care of my heart...

Posted by Susan on Thursday, February 28, 2013 in ,
A new art journal page to share and one I had so much fun creating.  Click on the image below to view a larger version.

I used my favorite Twilight/Vampire theme to create layers of paint, paper, stamps and embellishments on this art journal spread. Creating art journal pages is so new to me so I was happy this experiment in new techniques worked out so well.

Here are a few close ups, and don't forget to check out my YouTube channel where I give a more detailed description of each layer used to create the spread.

Art Journal - Numbers

Posted by Susan on Friday, February 15, 2013 in
My second Art Journal project. I'm still playing with ink sprays, both Dylusions brand and Tattered Angels glimmer mist.

I think I'm preferring the Dylusions version myself at this point, but I'm still trying out techniques.

Here is my latest art journal layout. Click on the image below for a closer look or come check it out on my NEW YouTube Channel:

More tags for Christmas

Posted by Susan on Friday, February 15, 2013 in ,
Still working on tags and playing with techniques. Here are a few more (just click on the images for a larger version):

I saw one of Tim Holtz Christmas tags from a previous year that had a Santa image in the background with a red and green mixed colours, and I wanted to try a version of it. The colours of the spray inks didn't blend as nicely as I would have liked on this tag, but it still has a vintage look.

I then added some tinsel twine and a charm that came from a set of wine glass markers.

I liked the way this tag worked out, especially with the non traditional Christmas colours. I used the Stampin Up stocking punch on this one and then inset it into the tag. I popped up the surrounding green snowflake patterned paper up so the stocking looks like it's inset into the tag.

I think I'll make a few more of this one in various patterned papers.

This tag started out heading in one direction that I didn't like part way through so I came up with a new plan. Originally this was supposed to have some musical instruments stamps popped up on it.

The background started out with music/sheet music paper that I adhered to the tag and then covered with Tattered Angels glimmer mist in turquoise and coffee shop. However, when it was finished the background and the musical instrument stamps just didn't seem to "match".

So then I began hunting for what to put on the background instead, and found this copper coloured metal Christmas tree ornament. It's a little heavy for my tree, so I decided to adhere it to my tag, and I think the colours match really well.

Art Journal - Autumn

Posted by Susan on Friday, February 15, 2013 in
In the past year I have been inspired by some YouTube videos to try my hand at an art journal. If you would like to see some amazing art journal work, check out Rachel on YouTube (user RachO113) and Heather (user staybeautiful84). They are truly fabulous artists and I can only aspire to their level of creativity.

So, allow me to share my first ever art journal project (click on the image for a larger view).

I took this picture after I finished my second page, and unfortunately my second page bled through a bit at the seam, but I still like it.

I used a lot of the Dylusions spray inks from Ranger on this layout, as well as some acrylic paint, stamps from Stampin Up, etc. I love how well the Dylusions spray inks blend together to make the sunset.

12 Tags of 2013 - February

Posted by Susan on Monday, February 04, 2013 in , ,
The February tag for the Tim Holtz "12 tags of 2013" was posted on Friday, so I spent the weekend figuring out my own version.

Here's a link to the original version from Tim Holtz »

And now, here is my version (click on it for a larger view)...

The idea started when I found a Queen of Hearts playing card image online with an Asian flare. I then used an awesome red and black Asian tissue paper for the background and built the rest up. It's a simple tag, not a whole lot to it. I used rub and buff in antique gold for the first time on the black strip that I embossed the word "LOVE" on, and I really like how that rub and buff works both to highlight the embossing but also distress the strip a bit. Very cool effect!

I then sprayed a white paper rose I got in the $1.50 bin at Michaels with some Dylusions red spray ink (love that stuff).

Hope you like it.
